Sustainiacs - FAQs

How much space do you need?

Our setup allows us to perform in a variety of spaces. Ideally we would require a space of 5x3m. However, we are experienced in playing both on massive stages and in tiny little corners – so if you don't have a lot of space, we will be able to make it work!

How is it best to time things?

Each event is different and by no means will Sustainiacs dictate or heavily influence the timings of your event. The usual timings for bands doing 2x1 hour sets are 9pm for the first set and 10:30pm for the second set. We would recommend that sets are timed around the food for the band (or vice versa). We would recommend feeding the band either before or after the first set.

Can I pick the bands playlist?

Sustainiacs' chosen set for your event has had a large amount of thought put into it in terms of genres/artists etc based on numerous factors. Whilst we can't realistically allow you to pick an entire playlist, we will happily learn any requests that are given to us a reasonable amount of time before your event. Also, if there are any songs you hate and don't want played, do let us know!

Where will you travel to?

All members of Sustainiacs are based in South East England/London. However we are happy to travel UK-wide and internationally to perform.

Can I see you play live?

The majority of Sustainiacs' performances are at weddings, corporate events and private parties which are not open to the public. However we do have a strong social media presence plus material on our Alive Network page – so feel free to check us out there. If you're THAT desperate to see us live, feel free to crash a wedding or two!

Will you learn our special song?

Of course. The special song/first dance is key to the bride and groom's event. If you let Alive Network know in advance of any requests you have, we will be happy to play them.

Is the video on your website a true reflection of the band?

Yes, the video is a very accurate representation of how Sustainiacs sound. The video and audio was recorded live in one take! We take pride in making our sets sound as good as we possibly can so you won't be disappointed.

How do I book you?

The best way to book Sustainiacs is through the contact page on this website, or through our agency. You can also email or call our booking agents on 0845 108 5500 or email us at sustainiacs@alivenetwork.com

Are you able to DJ in between sets?

Sustainiacs provide background music on a tablet in between sets as standard. If you would like a DJ set in between live sets, one of the band members will be manning the tablet and available to take requests, please see our upgraded package for this option.

Can we make DJ requests in advance to my event?

Sustainiacs have a Spotify Unlimited account so therefore have 99.9% of the world's music to hand. Feel free to make DJ requests in advance – we will more than likely have what you are looking for!

Can we use your sound system for speeches?

This will depend on the timings of your event. We are happy to let you use the sound system for speeches. Please bare in mind that the band doesn't use wireless mics, so that will need to be factored in.

What equipment do you use?

Sustaniacs have a large amount of high-quality gear. This includes an Alto Digital Mixing Desk, 2 LD Systems Oxid 12A 1000W speakers, 1 LD Systems 400W bass bin. Each member uses the best quality equipment – we're definitely not short of top of the range guitars, basses, keyboards and drums!

Do you have lights?

We have a small but effective LED lighting display – regardless of the size of the venue, they will look great!

How long do you play for?

Sustainiacs usually play 2x1 hour sets, however, this can also be divided into 3x40 minute sets if the client prefers. We have enough repertoire for more, and this can be negotiated if desired. Being such versatile musicians we also offer various upgrades including Acoustic sets, Solo Piano sets and Jazz Trio sets that can be added to further enhance your event.

What time do you start and finish?

The standard arrival time is 6pm and the finish time for bookings is midnight, this means Sustainiacs will finish all music inclusive of DJ sets and background music by that time. Curfews for the performance of music can often be dictated by the venue/licensing laws so it is always worth checking when speaking with a venue as they may specify an earlier finish time. If you require a later finish this is not a problem, the band work with all their clients to accommodate such requirements and will be able to quote based upon this information.

How long do you take to set up?

Being experienced in playing at corporate events and weddings, Sustainiacs are incredibly efficient when it comes to setting up. Ideally we would allow 90 minutes to set-up and soundcheck.

Can I provisionally book you?

Due to the high demand of Sustainiacs, it is not possible to make a provisional booking, however you can create an enquiry through our website that will generate a quote, and that way you will be given first refusal on the date if another enquiry comes in for the same day.

What if the band split up before my event?

This is extremely unlikely as all 5 members rely on regular work as the outfit 'Sustainiacs'. We have worked incredibly hard to get where we are so none of us planning on quitting any time soon!

However, in the extremely unlikely event that this does occur, you can be assured that a band of the same high quality will be sourced for you. (But, again, it won't come to that!)

Can my sister's/boss's/daughter's dog sing with your band?

We are always up for the crowd singing along with us. However, if you or someone you know does want to come on stage and sing, they must a) have experience in singing well in front of a crowd and b) sober(ish). As you can imagine there have been a number of cases where someone a little worse for wear has jumped up on stage and grabbed the microphone and spoilt the evening. In short, we are all for crowd participation but if we do have to turn you away from the stage, please don't be offended!

What will the band wear?

This entirely depends on the occasion. We have a range of outfits to suit weddings, casual birthday parties, black tie events etc. If you have any specific requests regarding dress code, feel free to let the band know and we will turn up dressed in the appropriate style for the event.

Does the band have PAT and PLI certificates?

All of Sustainiacs' equipment is PAT tested and this is updated annually. We also have Public Liabilty Insurance of up to £10,000,000. If you require any further information then please get in touch!

In short, with a gig-list that, amongst them, includes major music festivals, high-profile clients, cruise ships, worldwide tours, west-end musicals etc, Sustainiacs have what it takes to bring the best in live music to your event!

Our prices vary depending on location, time of year, timings of the day and whether or not you choose our upgraded package. Please contact our agent at Alive Network and we can guarantee you an extremely reasonable quote.

Can we see some previous client testimonials?

By all means! Please click here

Do Sustainiacs have any specific requirements?

Sustainiacs ask for a separate room to change in, and access to it from our arrival until we leave the venue. Also for some food to eat and drinks for the duration of their stay at the event.

With regards to dietary requirements, we do have a few important details that you should be aware of which we will let you know about.

What type/size venues are you able to play at?

Having played in all sorts of venues over the years that include boats, mansions, barns, sheds (yes, really), intimate venues, music festivals etc we are able to play anywhere!

How loud will the band be?

The band are flexible and accommodating – they always work with clients to ensure that the band is of a level in which people can enjoy the music being played and others in the room are able to have a conversation. However, as a four piece band with acoustic drums, guitar, bass and keyboard amps it is only possible to reduce the levels down so far without it effecting the performance.

A live band has a different dynamic to that of recorded music played through a PA system, and so this should all be taken into account when looking at a venue. Some venues have installed dB limiters which can effect the bands ability to perform without hindrance. If your booked venue has a dB limiter please let the agent know this when making your enquiry as it is highly likely that we (or one of our fellow Alive Network bands) has performed at the venue in question. In any case it is worth mentioning this information to the agent as Sustainiacs want to ensure that we provide you with an uncompromised performance.

If it turns out that the limiter is set to an exceptionally low setting it is always possible to come up with solutions to this, such as acoustic sets performed in a live lounge style. This ensures that you still get the music you want and can dance too just at a lower level.

What is the band power requirement?

We ask that you provide a minimum of two double 13 amp plug sockets close to the stage, ideally at either side of the stage / performance area. Our typical power consumption during a performance is low as all of our equipment is modern and efficient, however the band like to run their LED stage lighting from a separate source to our audio equipment to avoid any interference that it may cause. As a general rule the more power sockets you can provide close to the bands performance area the better!

Do The Hot Shots offer any additional services?

We offer a wide range series of extras that you can select to take your event to the next level - from solo pianists to jazz trios. If you want to take your party into the small hours of the morning then we have an option for that , if you would like some background music for your meal or drinks reception then we can provide that too. As standard, we offer 2x1 hour sets plus background music. If you are interested in any optional extras, please take a look at our 'upgraded' package.
